How to use a Lee County Library Card in other counties

The reciprocal borrowing programs in Florida are an incredible and underutilized perk of the public library system.

Right here in Southwest Florida, the Southwest Florida Library Network (SWFLN) issues physical reciprocal borrowing stickers that go directly onto your home county library card. If you have an active card in a participating county (like Lee, Collier, or Charlotte), you get that sticker attached, and it unlocks borrowing privileges across 19 other library systems in the region.

How to Get Your Reciprocal Borrowing Sticker

If other patrons want to take advantage of this program, the process is very straightforward:

  • Step 1: Visit your local home library branch and make sure your current account is in good standing.
  • Step 2: Ask the desk staff for a current reciprocal borrowing sticker (such as the SWFLN sticker) to be affixed to your card.
  • Step 3: When you visit a participating library in a neighboring county, present your stickered card along with your photo ID and proof of address to activate your guest borrowing account there.
