Joan Mountford – RIP

Joan Lynn Mountford, age 85, of Estero, Florida, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 18, 2025, at The Preserve in Fort Myers, Florida. Formerly of Libertyville, Illinois, Joan began wintering in Fort Myers in 1998 before making Estero her permanent home in 2001.

Born on January 12, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan, Joan was the beloved daughter of the late John and Lois (Sherman) Hamann. She pursued her education after graduating from Grosse Pointe High School at Michigan State University and Eastern Michigan University, ultimately earning her Master’s Degree in Education from Mississippi State University.

A devoted and passionate educator, Joan began her career teaching kindergarten and first grade. She concluded her teaching journey with six impactful years instructing English as a Second Language, touching countless lives through her patience and dedication.

Joan’s vibrant spirit extended well beyond the classroom. She had a lifelong love for shopping, enjoyed golfing, playing bridge, and was a talented cook who delighted in bringing people together through food and fellowship. A loving mother and grandmother, funny, always caring, and a wonderful wife of 65 years. A woman of deep faith, she was an active and cherished member of Vanderbilt Presbyterian Church in Naples. Joan served on numerous committees and found great joy in singing with the church choir.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, Terry G. Mountford; her loving children, Gordon (DeEtte) Mountford of Pasadena, CA, Scott (Katherine) Mountford of Belleville, IL, and Dr. Meredith (David) Mountford Williams of Boca Raton, FL; her dear brothers, Rial (Julia) Hamann of Mt. Clemens, MI, John (Jo Anne) Hamann of Tequesta, FL, and Steve (Jan) Hamann of Rio Verde, AZ; as well as her cherished grandchildren, Jonathan Mountford and Megan Murcia.

A memorial service celebrating Joan’s life will be held Saturday at
11:00 am EDT on June 7th 2025 at :
Vanderbilt Presbyterian Church in North Naples, (1225 Piper Blvd Naples Florida).
