Fireworks Rules

What fireworks are legal in Florida

Noisy or projectile fireworks are not legal in Florida most of the time.

Legal consumer fireworks are classified as 1.4G sparklers, including sparklers, fountains, ground spinners, snakes, glow worms and party poppers, says the Florida Sheriffs Association.

Florida law that took effect in 2021 says there are only three days when fireworks are allowed, subject to grandfathered local ordinances:

  • New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31
  • New Year’s Day, Jan. 1
  • Independence Day (July Fourth)

Some fireworks are not safe for home use and require permits or trained professionals, the Sheriff’s Association says. These include:

  • Explosive devices: Firecrackers, cherry bombs
  • Airborne fireworks: Rockets, aerial shells, mortars
  • Loud devices: Salutes, report shells
