Time for One Last Summer Fling

Summer is winding down. Soon our seasonal friends will return, and the lazy, sultry days of summer will have passed. As if that isn’t enough reason to celebrate, one of our residents has a very special birthday approaching. Sounds like a summer Masters finale is in order – at the River Club!

Arrive Sunday September 25th for cocktails any time from 4:30 on. Dinner tables will be reserved for 6:00. Ordering from the menu’s as we did previously, all that is needed is your response of yes or no to dinner, so we can give the River Club a head count for planning.

PLUS we will be recognizing Tony Albertini’s 98th birthday! Wow! Now that’s something to celebrate.  (No presents please.)

An email was sent to everyone on Monday, September 12. Simply reply through the link in the email to advise if attending or not.
If you did not get the email you can sign up by clicking here.
We are looking forward to another great time with friends and neighbors. Questions, call or text Betsy Wells 804-536-6299. Or email betsyWwells@gmail.com

ARC – Dirty Driveways

The Pelican Sound ARC Committee observed in their August inspection that quite a few driveways in our community require cleaning from dirt and mold, and in addition many driveways with pavers have weeds.

Normally, the PS ARC Committee notifies households individually to address infractions. However, it was felt that a community wide letter would be appropriate in light of the numerous households needing their driveways tended to.

Greenscapes has been contacted to spray the driveways for weeds (within the next week) however this may not be sufficient.

If you are in the community, please check your driveway and address any issues. If you are not in the community, please contact your home watch company and have them clean the dirt and mold and/or spray the pavers with weed killer.

It is the homeowner’s responsibility to maintain a clean, weed free driveway. Please ensure your driveways are cleaned and weed free before the next PS ARC inspection tour scheduled for the end of October.

Masters Cocktails/Dinner at the River Club

Sunday, August 7th – Cocktails at Happy Hour Prices

Join us at the River Club for cocktails. We just want to get together!

It’s time for another summer Masters gathering. We all enjoyed the last event in late June when the club thankfully bailed us out of a planned outdoor Street Party (too hot and too many thunderstorms.) So, we brought our dishes and enjoyed the comfort of the AC and beautiful setting at the clubhouse.

Happy Hour Prices From 4:00 till 6:00

Now we’re BACK with a date to gather, Sunday August 7th with a 4:00 start but you can arrive any time. We’re headed to the River Club and we’re leaving the covered dishes at home. Simply order dinner from the menu, billed to your member account or just come for drinks and mingle. Either way, EASY PEASY.

Dinner tables have been eserved for Masters residents who have already signed up, and the bar area will remain open for both the Masters and other Pelican Sound residents

There will be ample opportunities to visit with your neighbors and meet others. And if any of our seasonal residents are down this way, please let us know and join us!

No sign-up required if you’re just having cocktails.

Masters Summer Party 2022

Betsy Wells and Don Jancin started a new tradition for The Masters – a summer party. Originally planned as a street party, due to threating weather the party was moved to the Pelican Sound Club House.

More than 30 people attended the event on June 30, 2022.

Nelson Burr’s cupcakes were a big hit.

Pelican Sound: Proposed Flat Roof Tiles

In May, the Pelican Sound Board approved the recommendations of the Pelican Sound ARC Committee to amend the ARC Guidelines to allow the installation of flat roof tiles.

Although the Pelican Sound Board approved the revisions, an NVR (the Presidents of the 22 HOAs in Pelican Sound) vote is required to pass these changes. NVR discussions and vote will take place in October.

In preparation for such a vote, the Masters Board will seek your feedback in setting a direction for our community. There are two specific issues we seek your feedback on:

1. Should the Masters approve the proposed changes to the ARC Guidelines, and

2. If the proposed Pelican Sound ARC Guidelines are approved by the NVRs, should the Masters restrict the use of flat roofs in our community.

In September, a Zoom meeting will be scheduled for the Masters Board to hear your thoughts on the proposed ARC Guideline revisions. Celeste Eaton, as our ARC Committee Chair, will circulate an explanatory note on the proposed changes in advance of the meeting to provide you with background information.

Following the Zoom meeting, a poll will be conducted asking you to vote “yes” or “no” to the two issues identified above. The results of the poll will be disclosed at an October Masters Board meeting. The decision will provide us with the direction for NVR discussions scheduled for October 20, followed by the NVR vote on October 27.
